Summit High School senior Summer Riley scored three goals and added three assists in a 7-1 win over Nolensville. The performance earned her a nomination for The Daily Herald's TSSAA fall sports Athlete of the Week poll for Week 6.
Voting closes at noon Thursday, Oct. 1.
Riley, a Florida commit, had 18 goals and six assists at the midseason mark, according to The Daily Herald's midseason report. The six-point night against Nolensville padded those numbers and capped a stretch in which the Summit senior has been involved in nearly every Spartans goal.
The week before the Nolensville win, Riley tallied two goals and five assists against Ravenwood and Brentwood, accounting for all seven of Summit's goals across those two games. Summit's athletics department named her the school's Farm Bureau Insurance Athlete of the Week for that effort.
The productive stretch followed a rough patch for the Spartans. After a 3-1 district loss to Ravenwood on Sept. 16, Summit coach Deni Ismailovic told the Williamson Herald, "We need to connect passes better and stop giving up easy goals … Teams are overworking us and we're not doing simple stuff."
In the two weeks since that loss, Riley has combined for five goals and eight assists.
Five other athletes were nominated in the Week 6 poll. Culleoka's Emerson Massey scored six goals in an 8-3 win over Richland and added two goals and two assists against Cornersville plus a goal and three assists against Loretto.
Columbia Academy's Marley Ayers had four goals in an 8-2 win over Webb and a hat trick in a 9-0 win over MTCS. Columbia Central's Molly Bratton posted 19 kills, 17 digs, three aces and a block in a 3-1 volleyball win over Lewis County.
Independence's Cadence Mathis recorded 23 assists, 17 digs and two kills in volleyball. Zion Christian's Emma Harter tallied 30 assists, two kills and an ace in a win over East Hickman, plus 26 assists and two aces in a win over Collinwood.
Fans can cast votes at The Daily Herald's website before the noon Thursday, Oct. 1, deadline.
