Summit's 79-yard scoring drive in the final 34.5 seconds against Shelbyville earned the Spartans the No. 2 spot in The Tennessean's Week 6 Nashville-area team performance rankings.

Jack Williams of The Tennessean published the rankings Friday, Sept. 25, placing Summit behind only Pearl-Cohn. Battle Ground Academy, Brentwood Academy and Grace Christian rounded out the top five. Williams bases the weekly rankings on statistics, quality of opponent and how wins factor into the TSSAA playoffs.

The ranking comes after Summit entered the week at 1-4 with four straight losses.

Wide receiver Micah Sally caught eight passes for 136 yards and three touchdowns against Shelbyville, including the game-winning score with 3.6 seconds left. Quarterback Davis Smith finished 17-of-32 for 236 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.

Sally delivered. The win gave Summit its first Region 6-6A victory of the season. Both teams had entered the game without a region win.

The late rally echoed Summit's Week 2 performance at Nolensville on Aug. 28, when the Spartans erased a 14-0 deficit to tie the game at 14-14 before falling 17-14 on a last-second field goal. Nolensville head coach Scott Stidham praised Summit's fight in the Williamson Herald's Aug. 29 coverage of that game: "They just never quit and they kept playing."

Head coach Brian Coleman, now in his 13th year at Summit, entered the season focused on rebuilding the program's championship culture after back-to-back playoff misses and a 2-8 record in 2025. Former Spartan stars Keaten Wade and Cooper Koch, both members of the 2020 TSSAA Class 5A state title team, joined the coaching staff before the season.

"In a public school, sometimes you're going to take your lumps … it's still building," Coleman said in an Aug. 20 preseason interview with the Williamson Herald.

Sally and Smith have connected all season. In the Week 5 loss to Lincoln County, Sally had 10 catches for 125 yards and two touchdowns, and Smith threw for 153 yards and three scores.

The Spartans now sit at 2-4 overall and 1-0 in Region 6-6A play heading into Week 7.
