Drivers heading north on I-65 through Williamson County will hit detours Tuesday, Sept. 29, and Wednesday, Sept. 30, as overnight ramp closures begin at two exits between Spring Hill and Franklin.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation said crews with Vulcan Construction will close ramps in alternating directions at Exit 65, the State Route 96/Murfreesboro Road interchange, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. TDOT's press release said signage will be in place.

Exit 61, the Goose Creek Bypass interchange, will also see intermittent ramp closures as crews move milling and paving equipment through. TDOT did not specify a time window for the Exit 61 work.

Both interchanges sit along the northbound route Spring Hill and Thompson's Station commuters take toward Franklin and Nashville. Exit 65 at Murfreesboro Road is a major access point for Cool Springs and eastern Franklin.

The ramp work at both exits is part of a larger I-65 resurfacing project stretching from near I-840 to Liberty Pike. Vulcan Construction began nightly lane closures on that stretch Aug. 9, according to an earlier TDOT announcement. TDOT expects the project to wrap up by December 2026.

A separate resurfacing project on I-840, from near State Route 6 (U.S. 31) to east of Arno Road, also started nightly closures Aug. 9. Volunteer Paving is handling that work, which TDOT also expects to finish by December 2026.

All work is weather-dependent.

TDOT directs drivers to the SmartWay traffic map at smartway.tn.gov or to call 511 for real-time updates. Drivers can also follow @myTDOT on X for project announcements. Motorists can report potholes by calling the TDOTFIX Hotline at 833-TDOTFIX.

Tennessee's Move Over Law requires motorists to slow down and move over when approaching work zones. Violations carry a penalty of up to 30 days in jail and a maximum $500 fine.

TDOT has not announced additional ramp closures beyond Sept. 30.
