Lincoln County running back Carsen Carter ran for 126 yards and three touchdowns Friday, Sept. 18, powering the Falcons past Summit 42-21 in Fayetteville.
The Spartans kept it close through the first half, trailing just 21-14 at the break. The second half was a different story.
Carter scored two of his three touchdowns after halftime, as first reported by Main Street Media of Tennessee. The Falcons forced Summit to punt on the Spartans' opening drive of the third quarter, then pulled away. Lincoln County outscored Summit 21-7 in the second half to turn a one-score game into a blowout.
Summit couldn't recover.
The loss dropped the Spartans to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in region play, according to TSSAA standings updated Monday, Sept. 21. Lincoln County improved to 4-0.
It has been a difficult stretch for coach Brian Coleman's team. Summit lost to Nolensville 17-14 on Aug. 28 and fell to Ravenwood 28-0 on Sept. 11 before the trip to Lincoln County. Three consecutive losses, each by a wider margin than the last, have left the Spartans searching for answers as the schedule shifts to region play.
Summit's region opponents include Shelbyville, Coffee County, Franklin and Independence. The Spartans sit at 0-2 in region games through five weeks.
Up next, Summit travels to Shelbyville for a region matchup in Week 6, according to the Tennessean's schedule. Lincoln County hosts Giles County the same week. A kickoff time for the Summit game has not been confirmed.
