Summit High School's volleyball team takes the court Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. as the No. 3 seed in the District 10-AAA Tournament.
The Spartans will face the winner of the Ravenwood-Independence first-round matchup, according to a tournament announcement posted by Summit athletics director Robert Wilson on Monday, Oct. 5. Summit is hosting the tournament at its Spring Hill campus.
Tickets cost $10 and are available through GoFan. All attendees, including students, must purchase tickets because the games are Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) events.
Season passes will not be accepted.
Summit enters the postseason as the defending Class AAA state champion after beating Brentwood in a five-set match last season. The Spartans return six seniors under coach Warne Riker: Tessa Rowe, Everleigh DeShazo, Aaree Poag, Emery Estep, Madison Spelta and Micah Hayes.
Riker described the challenge of competing in District 10-AAA in an August interview with the Williamson Herald.
"I love our district because every game is literally a state tournament … the teams are so difficult to play and they bring so much heart to all their games," he said.
The Spartans posted an 18-12 overall record and went 9-1 in district play through a Sept. 23 sweep of Page, according to the Williamson Herald. Senior Emery Estep led the team with 13 kills in that match, and junior Nonie Yancy contributed three of Summit's six blocks.
Senior setter Tessa Rowe said after the Page win that the team's mindset has been collective. "We really focused in, poured into one another, and played for the person next to us," Rowe told the Williamson Herald in September.
Summit's final regular-season record heading into the tournament was not available at publication time.
District 10-AAA includes eight Williamson County programs: Summit, Ravenwood, Independence, Centennial, Franklin, Brentwood, Page and Nolensville.
The winner of Tuesday's match advances in the bracket. First serve is at 7 p.m. at Summit High School, 2830 Twin Lakes Dr., Spring Hill.
