Summit lost 14-7 to Hendersonville on Saturday, Oct. 3, a non-conference homecoming defeat in Spring Hill that stalled the Spartans' momentum heading into a Fall Break bye.
Hendersonville running back Ayden Meadows punched in a short touchdown early in the fourth quarter to give the Commandos the lead for good. The visitors piled up 218 rushing yards, with Tate Rumney carrying 20 times for 83 yards and four other Hendersonville backs gaining at least 18 yards apiece, the Williamson Herald reported.
Junior quarterback Davis Smith completed 12 of 19 passes for 154 yards with one touchdown and one interception for Summit. Senior receiver Zach Lamb led the receiving corps with four catches for 51 yards.
The ground game carried Hendersonville all night.
The loss came one week after Smith connected with senior Micah Sally on a touchdown pass with 3.8 seconds left to beat Shelbyville Central 20-19 for Summit's first Region 6-6A win of the season. In that Week 6 thriller, Smith finished 17 of 32 for 236 yards and three touchdowns. Sally hauled in all three scoring passes, finishing with eight catches for more than 130 yards.
Sally leads Summit in receiving yards per game at 56.3 and has three touchdown catches on the season, according to MaxPreps.
Summit does not play during the week of Oct. 12 while head coach Brian Coleman's squad practices through Fall Break. The Spartans can clinch the No. 3 seed in Region 6-6A by winning their remaining regular-season games, according to the Williamson Herald.
That stretch starts with a road trip to Coffee County on Friday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. in a region game. Coffee County enters that matchup after a 55-0 loss to Brentwood in Week 7, a result that moved Brentwood to 3-0 in region play.
Summit then hosts Franklin on Friday, Oct. 23. The Oct. 16 kickoff at Coffee County is at 7 p.m.
