Maury County residents can weigh in on a new plan that will shape where growth happens across the county's unincorporated land at a public meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Memorial Building, 308 W. 7th St., Columbia, according to an official public notice from the county. The county's online calendar lists a different start time of 5 p.m. for the same event; residents with questions can confirm the time by calling the Maury County Building and Zoning Office at 931-375-3003.
The Comprehensive Land Use Plan is a long-range planning document that sets goals and policies for land use, housing, transportation and infrastructure in unincorporated Maury County, according to the project website. The county's previous comprehensive plan dates to 2011.
The plan matters here. For Spring Hill residents whose properties sit in Maury County, the document will inform future zoning and land use decisions on surrounding parcels. The plan covers unincorporated county land, not territory inside city limits.
The Nov. 10 meeting is part of the plan's third phase, which focuses on drafting, review and adoption. The county and its planning consultant, McBride Dale Clarion, have been gathering public input since spring 2026. Past public engagement events included sessions at school cafeterias in Culleoka, Santa Fe and Hampshire in June and a meeting at Battle Creek High School in Spring Hill in August.
The county's public notice states the meeting's purpose is "to continue gathering public comment for the new Comprehensive Land Use Plan which develops a planning guide for the most appropriate use of land in the unincorporated county."
Once a final draft is completed, the Maury County Planning Commission would vote to adopt it after County Commission endorsement, according to the project website. The adopted plan would then guide policy decisions, zoning reviews and project prioritization.
An advisory committee for the plan was scheduled to meet Tuesday, Oct. 27, at the Barner-Primm County Commission Meeting Room on Public Square in Columbia, according to a separate public notice. That meeting's agenda included a financial analysis prepared by the consultant and public comments.
Residents who need disability accommodations for the Nov. 10 meeting can call the Maury County Mayor's Office at 931-375-1001 at least three working days before the meeting.
