Maury County residents have less than two weeks to weigh in on three proposed zoning changes headed to a public hearing on Monday, Nov. 16.
The Maury County Commission will hear public comment starting at 6 p.m. in the Barner-Primm County Commissioner's Meeting Room at 6 Public Square in Columbia, according to a legal notice posted by the county. The commission will then vote on the proposals during its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m.
The biggest item: property owners Andrew W. Sisk and Linda I. Sisk are asking to rezone approximately 72.515 acres at 610 New Lewisburg Highway in Columbia from Residential General to Commercial Center. The property is identified as County Tax Map 114, Parcel 071.00, in District 9. The legal notice does not describe what the owners plan to build on the site.
The Maury County Regional Planning Commission recommended all three requests at its Sept. 28 meeting, according to the legal notice.
Two other zoning ordinance amendments are also on the docket. One, submitted by the Maury County Building and Zoning Office, would allow private airports, landing strips and heliports as a special exception in the Agricultural Preservation, Residential Rural and Industrial Medium districts.
The other would require that any parent parcel proposed for a family subdivision have frontage on a public road. Lots created through a family subdivision could still take access from a 50-foot-wide easement, but that easement could not serve more than five lots.
Both ordinance amendments were submitted by the county's Building and Zoning Office.
Copies of the proposed amendments are available for review at the Maury County Building and Zoning Office on the first floor of the Walter Harlan Building, Building #5, Public Square, Columbia. Office hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for lunch. Residents can also call (931) 375-3002 for more information.
The public hearing begins at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 16, with the commission vote to follow at 6:30 p.m.
